EcoSector Portal turns 30

Today, the EcoSector Portal celebrates its 30th Public Profile, Sarasota Green Marketplace, one of the first green home and building retail centers in the country. I was especially fascinated by the sister site, Sarasota Green Connection, a green business and community building site just for Sarasota. In this one spot, over 200 green leaders, companies, and organizations can be found.

Discovering hotbeds of the Eco Sector is always exiting to me. One of my goals in building the EcoSector Portal is to help convey the depth of this shift in the economy to the general public, especially people who are discovering it for the first time. It’s been a great month for the Portal, with one new Profile added every other day, including one each from China and India. The number of green economic leaders collected by SGM’s founder Mary Anne Bowie gives a strong indication of just how huge the global Eco Sector is already.

Inn Serendipity

This new listing is so neat. Here’s an “ecotourism” destination bed & breakfast tucked away in Wisconsin. Check out Inn Serendipity’s public profile.

I was especially inspired by the video posted by the Inn’s founders, John Ivanko and Lisa Kivirist:

Ivanko and Kivirist are also authors of a new book, Ecopreneuring, which you can find in my online bookstore for the eco-economy.

The Green Vblogger

The other day I mentioned how I added YouTube capability to Public Profiles. The person who inspired me to do this was Cheryl Janis of www.planetpinkngreen.com who had posted a Public Profile at the EcoSector Portal.

Cheryl calls herself a “an eco-citizen-journalist”.  A big part of the green economy is the “mindspace” of it all — Cheryl captures a charming, funky, and fun side of the eco-sector by interviewing live eco-preneurs, making neat videos like this one, and posting them on her blogsite:

I enjoy this show immensely — watched it several times — and have spent quite a while on Cheryl’s site. I think planetpinkngreen gives a great sense of what’s possible in the green economy, and an deep view of how “new media” and the green economy are flowing together.

Do you have a Coach?

Most successful business leaders today rely heavily on personal coaches. I first began using personal coaches in 1998 to increase my performance, slash time lines, and maximize my enjoyment of life, so I was pleased to see Jak Plihal and Being Solutions post a public profile.

Jak says his coaching can get you to “perform like you never have”. His methods are similar to others I’ve used in the past. The cool thing about coaching is you often see the value immediately, on the spot, in real dollars and cents. It’s a wonderful alternative to working harder and longer.
